두 수조사이에 베르누이 방정식을 적용하면

V1²/2g + P/ρg + h1 + z1
= V2²/2g + P/ρg + h2 + z2 + hL(손실수두)

V1, V2, P ≒ 0 이므로

hL = (h1+z1)-(h2+z2) = H 라 할 수 있다.

총 손실수두 hL는 다음과 같으므로

hL = he + ho + hf = H
he:유입부 손실, ho:유출부 손실, hf:마찰손실

H = (fe+fo)*(V²/2g) + f(l/D)*(V²/2g)
= (fe+fo+f(l/D))*(V²/2g) 가 되고

이를 관내 유속 V에 대하여 풀면

V = ((2*g*H)/(fe+fo+f*l/D))^(1/2) 가 된다.
fe:유입 손실계수, fo:유출 손실계수,
f:마찰손실계수
