Waves moving through water deeper than half their wavelength are known as deep-water waves. The speed of a deep-water wave may also be approximated by:

C = (gL / 2¥ð)^(1/2), when g=9.8,¥ð=3.14, C = 1.251*L^(1/2)

C : Speed of wave (m/s)
g : Gravity acceleration (9.8m/s^2)
L : Wave length, crest to crest (m)
