Waves in water shallower than 1/20 their original wavelength are known as shallow-water waves. The speed of shallow-water waves is described by a different equation that may be written as:

C = (gD)^(1/2), when g=9.8, C = 3.1*D^(1/2)  

C : Speed of wave (m/s)
g : Gravity acceleration (9.8m/s^2)
d : Depth of the water (m)
