그림과 같이 위도 θ인, 동일 위도의 둘레 길이는 다음과 같이 계산할 수 있다. 완전한 구라는 가정 하에, 지구의 반지름을 R 이라고 하고 위도 θ인 곳의 반지름을 r 이라고 하면, r = R*cosθ 가 되고, 둘레 길이 L = 2*π*r = 2*π*R*cosθ 가 된다.
