Strain is deformation magnitude (length) per unit length.
Measurement is made by deformation under stress.

Tensile strain : expansion per unit length
Compressive strain : contraction per unit length
Shear strain : angle of twist
Elastic strain : strain within the proportioanal limit, due to stress

Strain is expressed as below.
