For two events A and B, the conditional probability of the event B's occurrence following occurrence of the event A is calculated as below.

Letting,
total number of cases as N=N1+N2
(number of occurrences and non-occurrences of event A are N1 and N2, respectively); and
number of occurrences of event B following occurrence of event A as N3,

The probability of event B's occurrence is N3/(N1+N2), while the probability of event B's occurrence following occurrence of event A is N3/N1.

Example) Assume, among 100 persons, that 80 persons had dinner but the rest 20 persons did not. If 10 persons ate steak out of 80 persons who had dinner, probability of choosing steak among 100 persons is 10/100 but that among 80 persons who had dinner is 10/80.
