1 mole hydrogen molecules react with 1 mole of chlorine molecule to make 2 moles of hydrogen chloride molecules.

H2 + Cl2 ¡æ 2HCl

When the mass and molecular weight of the hydrogen molecules used in the reaction are MH2 and WH2 respectively and the molecular weight of the chlorine is WCl2, the mass of generated hydrogen chloride, MHC,  can be calculated as follows.

MHC = MH2/WH2*2*((1/2)*WH2+(1/2)*WCl2)

MHC = MH2/WH2*2*((1/2)*WH2+(1/2)*WCl2)
