Engineering News Record Formula

There are three formulas for calculating the allowable bearing capacity of a pile: Drop hammer, single-acting steam hammer, floating steam hammer, etc. Depending on the hammer type, there are three formulas applicable.

¡á For drop hammer
Qa = W * H / (6 * (S + 2.54))

¡á For single-acting steam hammers
Qa = W * H / (6 * (S + 0.254))

¡á For floating steam hammers
Qa = H * (W + A * P) / (6 * (S + 0.254))

where;
Qa: Allowable bearing capacity of the pile (kg)
W: Weight of hammer (kg)
H: Drop height of hammer (cm)
S: Final penetration depth of the pile (cm)
A: Effective area of piston (§²)
P: Effective pressure of piston (kg / §²)

The Engineering News formula is a formula for determining the allowable bearing capacity of a deep foundation and belongs to the dynamic method, together with the Sander formula.
