Surface area of a hollow cylinder

The surface area of a hollow cylinder having its outer diameter D, inner diameter d and height h, as shown in the figure, is calculated as follows:

¡à Area of vertical surfaces, A1  
A1 = ¥ð*D*h + ¥ð*d*h = ¥ð*(D+d)*h  

¡à Area of horizontal surfaces, A2  
A2 = 2*((¥ð/4)*D^2 - (¥ð/4)*d^2) = (¥ð/2)*(D^2 - d^2)  

¡à Surface area of the cylinder, A = A1 + A2  
A = ¥ð * (D+d)*h + (¥ð/2) * (D^2 - d^2)  
   = ¥ð * ((D+d)*h + (D^2 - d^2 )/2)
