Stress acting on hollow circular pipe section

As shown in the figure, the stress ¥ò (Pa) generated, in case that the force F (N) acts on the pipe section having the outer diameter Do (m) and the inner diameter Di (m), can be obtained as follows:

¡á Cross-sectional area under force

A = (¥ð/4)*(Do^2 - Di^2)

¡á Stress

¥ò = F/A = F / ((¥ð/4)*(Do^2 - Di^2)) = 4*F/(¥ð*(Do^2 - Di^2))
