Calculating the distance between two points on a plane

If the coordinates of two points P1 and P2 on the coordinate plane are (x1, y1) and (x2, y2), respectively, the distance (D) between two points can be obtained by using Pythagorean theorem.

D = ((x1-x2)^2 + (y1-y2)^2)^(1/2)
