삼차함수 y = a*x^3 + b*x^2 + c*x + d 위의 한 점 P(x1, y1) 에 접하는 직선의 방정식을 구한다.

y1 = a*x1^3 + b*x1^2 + c*x1 + d 이므로 점 P의 좌표는 (x1, a*x1^3 + b*x1^2 + c*x1 + d) 이 된다.

접선의 방정식을 y = a1*x + b1 라고하면,

점 P 에서의 접선의 기울기 a1 은 다음과 같다.

a1 = 3*a*x1^2 + 2*b*x1 + c

또한, 점 P 를 지나므로, 다음과 같이 b1을 구할 수 있다

a*x1^3 + b*x1^2 + c*x1 + d = (3*a*x1^2 + 2*b*x1 + c)*x1 + b1

b1 = (a*x1^3 + b*x1^2 + c*x1 + d) - (3*a*x1^2 + 2*b*x1 + c)*x1
