Calculation of allowable load for a steel rod with its allowable strain (stretch or reduction) known

When the load P is applied to a steel rod whose length is L, diameter is D, and elastic modulus is E, the stretched (or reduced) length is as follows.

¥ä= P*L/(A*E) = P*L / ((¥ð/4)*D^2*E)

Then,

P = ¥ä*A*E/L = (¥ð/4)*(¥ä*E*D^2)/L)

Applying ¥ä and D units in cm, L units in m, and E units in MPa, P units become N.

P = (¥ð/4)*(¥ä*E*D^2)/L)
