Combined resistence, Wheatstone Bridge type

Obtain the combined resistance Rad (¥Ø) of the circuit connected as shown in the figure.

- The magnitude of each connected resistor is R (¥Ø).

- The voltage between points a and d is V and the current is I.

- The voltage between b and d, Vbd, and the voltage between a and c, Vac, are:
Vac = R*I1 + R*I2 = 2*R*(I-I1)
Vbd = 2*R*(I1-I2) = R*I2 + R*(I-I1+I2)

Rearranging the above two equations,

R*I1 + R*I2 - 2*R*(I-I1) = 0
3*R*I1 + R*I2 - 2*R*I = 0

2*R*(I1-I2) - R*I2 - R*(I-I1+I2) = 0
3*R*I1 - 4*R*I2 - R*I = 0

Combining the above two equations,

15*R*I1 - 9*R*I = 0 ¡æ I1 = (3/5)*I

R*I2 - (1/5)*R*I = 0 ¡æ I2 = (1/5)*I

Besides,

V = I*Rad = Vab + Vbd = (3/5)*I*R + 2*((3/5)*I - (1/5)*I)*R
= ( 3/5 + 6/5 - 2/5 )*I*R
= (7/5)*I*R

Then,

Rab = (7/5)*R
