빗변에서 직각인 꼭지점까지의 거리와 빗변이 아닌 다른 변과의 관계를 나타낸식

1/H^2 = 1/a^2 + 1/b^2

이를 이용하여 빗변이 아닌 두 변의 길이를 이용하여 높이 H 를 구할수 있다.

H^2 = (a^2*b^2)/(a^2 + b^2)

H = a*b/(a^2 + b^2)^(1/2)
