In the figure, the area SA, SB and SC of each semicircle having diameters equal to sides a, b and c of the right triangle are as follows.

SA = (1/8)¥ð*a^2

SB = (1/8)¥ð*b^2

SC = (1/8)¥ð*c^2

For a right triangle,

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

and

SA + SB = SC

Let Sab be the sum of two crescent-shaped areas Sa and Sb.

Since Sab = Sa + Sb = SA + SB + ¡âABC - SC,

Sab = ¡âABC

¡Å Sab = (1/2)*a*b

Sab = (1/2)*a*b
