Tension caused by a rotating object hanging from a string (rope) connected to a rod

As shown in the figure, when an object with mass m (kg) is rotating the rod, the string length is L (m) and the angle between the rod and the string is ¥è (deg).

The tension T (N) on the string is calculated as follows.

The force mg due to gravity and the centrifugal force F due to rotation applies on the object.

F = mgtan¥è

T = ((mg)^2 + F^2)^(1/2)

= ((mg)^2 + (mgtan¥è)^2)^(1/2)

= mg(1+(tan¥è)^2)^(1/2)

= mg/cos¥è
