Completely inelastic collision, bullet spped, when bullets are stuck in wood

In a fully inelastic collision, the velocity v after the collision is :

v = (m1*v1 + m2*v2)/(m1+m2)

If the mass and speed of bullet are m1 (kg) and v1 (m/s) and the mass and speed of the wood chip are m2 (kg) and v2 (m/s), then,  

(m1+m2)*v = m1*v1 + m2*v2

v1 = ((m1+m2)*v - m2*v2)/m1

In the case that the wood chip initially stood still, v2 = 0, thus,

v1 = (m1+m2)*v/m1
