In the rectangular concrete beam having simple reinforcement as shown in the figure, the depth of the equivalent stress block is determined as follows.

Concrete compressive force = tensile force of rebar

0.85*fck*a*b = As*fy

a = As*fy / (0.85*fck*b)

where As is the cross-sectional area of the rebar (mm^2).

If the number of rebars is n, then,

a = n*As*fy / (0.85*fck*a*b)
