In an open channel with a triangular cross section, the optimal hydraulic cross section is a right triangle with an angle of 90 degrees.
When the slope of the channel is S, the flow rate Q (m^3/s) according to the water depth h (m) can be obtained as follows using the Manning equation.
n is the Manning coefficient according to the channel material.

Area of water flow: A = (1/2)*2h*h = h^2

Peripheral length: P = 2*sqr(2)*h

R = A/P = h^2 / (2*sqr(2)*h) = (sqr(2)/4)*h

Q = A*(1/n)*R^(2/3)*S^(1/2)

   = (h^2)*(1/n)*((sqr(2)/4)*h)^(2/3)*S^(1/2)
