The average flow velocity formula of Manning is applied to obtain the diameter D (m) of the circular pipe to pass the flow rate Q (m^3/s).

Q = A*V

Area of flow : A = (¥ð/4)*D^2

Hydraulic radius : R = A/P = (¥ð/4)*D^2 / (¥ð*D) = D/4

Average flow velocity by Manning formula.

V = 1/n*R^(2/3)*S^(1/2)
 = 1/n*(D/4)^(2/3)*S^(1/2)

Thus,

Q = (¥ð/4)*D^2 * 1/n*(D/4)^(2/3)*S^(1/2)

D^2 * (D/4)^(2/3) = 4*n*Q/(¥ð*S^(1/2))

D^(8/3) = 4^(5/3)*n*Q/(¥ð*S^(1/2))

D = (4^(5/3)*n*Q/(¥ð*S^(1/2)))^(3/8)
