When the sound intensity level (SIL) increases from SIL1 (dB) to SIL2 (dB), the sound intensity increase rate IR (%) is obtained.

If the sound intensity at SIL1 is I1 (W/m^2) and the sound intensity at SIL2 is I2 (W/m^2),

From SIL = 10*log(I/I0), (I0 : reference sound intensity = 1pW/m^2)

SIL1 = 10*log(I1/I0) = 10*(log(I1) - log(I0))

log(I1) = (1/10)*SIL1+log(I0)

, and in the same way,

log(I2) = (1/10)*SIL2+log(I0)

Thus,

log(I2)-log(I1) = log(I2/I1) = (1/10)*(SIL2-SIL1)

I2/I1 = 10^((1/10)*(SIL2-SIL1))

IR is as follows.

IR = 100*(I2-I1)/I1 = 100*((I2/I1)-1)
 = 100*(10^((1/10)*(SIL2-SIL1))-1)
